Extension of Student insurance

Kulturstudier’s mandatory student insurance lasts for 6 (or 12) months: 15 December to 14 June for the spring semester, and 15 July to 14 January for the fall semester.

If you make trips to/from the place of study that last more than 45 days, you must purchase an extension. If you for example plan to leave home the 1st of December and arrive at the place of study 1st February, you count back 45 days from 1 February and come to 19 December. That means you need extension, from 1st to 18th December, 19 days.

If you study two semesters, you have 12 months' insurance. Then you are covered for a total of 90 days of travel in between the two semesters. In practice it means that you can travel between autumn and spring semester without extension. But between spring and fall semester, you need a 40-day extension if you are traveling the entire period from the first semester ends untill the next begins.

When you order the expansion at the link below, we recommend you select the "Ungdomsforsikring" if you are under 35 years. The form is unfortunately only available in Norwegian.
