1. Restaurant & Café Tuan

Tuan, or Vicky as we call it, is a sweet and cozy little restaurant located a short walk from the houses. Here you can get everything from more traditional Vietnamese cuisine to something more Western. Vicky is the owner of the restaurant and runs it with her family. She is extremely pleasant and loves to chat and get to know those who come to eat at her place. If you decide to visit her, you can expect lots of good food and a friendly host who will help you with whatever you might need. A must-try are her bucket drinks (both with and without alcohol), which both look great and taste amazing!

2. Nhan's Restaurant

Nhan’s restaurant is another cozy place located right above the local grocery store. It often attracts more tourists since it's not as hidden. The food here is very affordable and incredibly good for the price. You can get everything from local dishes to pizza, burgers, and pasta. If you want to take the food back to the house, that’s certainly an option. Despite the cheap and tasty food, perhaps the best thing about Nhan’s is the staff working there. They are incredibly friendly and more than happy to have a chat. This has been a popular spot among former students.

3. The Tailor

If you decide to travel to Vietnam, there's no doubt that you should visit a tailor. There, you can get exactly the clothes you want in the fabric of your choice. In Hoi An, there are virtually thousands of different tailors to choose from, but of all, I recommend Sewing Bees number 11. There work two incredibly nice and helpful ladies who assist you with whatever you may desire. Just bring a picture from Pinterest of the pants, suit, or dress you want. The ladies will help you choose the fabric and color you want. You can also go 'all-out' on an outfit, they can do a lot of different things. If the pants don't fit exactly as you wish, just let them know. They do everything they can to help you, so that you are satisfied! The same applies if something gets damaged. Just hand in the garment, and it will be fixed for free. How long it takes before you get your clothes depends on how much you've ordered, but it's usually ready within a couple of days. You can expect the clothes to be of good quality and you get them for a cheap price. I can promise you that you're going to love them!

4. Three Dragons

Three Dragons is primarily a sports bar and restaurant. They have incredibly good burgers, drinks, and it's the perfect place to enjoy an ice-cold beer. If you're looking for a bar where you can sit and chat with people in a pleasant environment, then this bar is both close by and absolutely perfect. They broadcast both F1 and football for those interested. If you want to play pool, that's also an option here. However, the reason why Three Dragons has become so popular is neither the beer nor the sports. There are especially two things that I think everyone thinks of when they hear Three Dragons. The first is that movie nights are held. This autumn, we met every Monday to watch 'House of the Dragons' upstairs on the second floor. This was an offer we got after talking to the owner of the place, but movies are also shown on other nights. The owner of the bar is incredibly nice and always up for a chat. The second thing that is very popular at Three Dragons is the quiz night. Every Wednesday, several students and other locals gather for a communal quiz night held at Three Dragons. To participate in the quiz, it costs 50,000 VND (approximately 21 NOK) and the winning team divides the money among themselves. In addition, the losing team gets shots. Definitely a place worth checking out!

5. Tiger Tiger

Tiger Tiger is a bar during the day and a very popular nightclub at night, attracting students, backpackers, and others. To enter the nightclub, you must have purchased a drink at the outside bar and show it to the bouncers on your way in. What you choose is entirely up to you, as they sell shots, mixed drinks, and beer. The prices are definitely affordable, undoubtedly much cheaper than in, for example, Norway. It takes about 5-10 minutes to get to Tiger Tiger by bike. If you get tired of dancing all night, there are several other bars in the same area where the music isn't as loud, and the clubs aren't as crowded.

6. Nourish

Nourish is an extremely popular place to study and grab a bite to eat. This is a lovely little café/restaurant with a very friendly staff who speak good English. The food here is more geared towards breakfast and lunch, but they have something for everyone. If you have allergies, they will accommodate you, and they also have several vegan options worth checking out. In addition, the prices are very affordable, and you can cycle here in 2-3 minutes from Balance. This is one of the few places where people like to come back not just once, but several times.
