End-of-semester student Q&A
The semester has come to an end. A lot of memories, knowledge and friendships have been created. Read about three students' experiences with Kulturstudier. What are their favorite places? What do they wish they brought from Norway? What advice do they have for students?

Synne, 19 years old from Mandal, Southern Norway
What is the best part about living in Costa Rica?
– I love the people here so much! In the beginning when we walked to school there were a lot of cars honking at us, and we thought it was a bit creepy and weird, but now we know it is only them greeting us!
I love when people here greet us, Costa Ricans are very social. For example, they go to the local store only to socialize with other locals.

What is the worst part?
– The food – real bread doesn’t exist, and a lot of food is ultra processed...
What is one tip you would give someone traveling to Costa Rica?
– Book a flexible flight ticket. A lot of students have changed their flights and paid a lot of money for the change.
Also, don't be afraid to travel without knowing other students before you go, because you will make friends very fast. Letting people get to know each other early on is something Kulturstudier really focuses on as well.
Lastly, I really recommend everyone to spend five weeks in a host family, which is the standard for the programme. You learn so much about language, culture and yourself.

Yngve, 24 years old from Måløy
Why did you choose Kulturstudier in Costa Rica?
– I started a five-year master's degree in Norway directly after high school, and never had an exchange semester in my degree.
After five years of engineering studies, I felt like it was time for me to do something new. I wanted to live abroad, learn Spanish and travel in Latin-America, and this programme fit perfectly!

Do you have a tip or advice for someone considering the programme?
– If you are unsure what you want to do, but you know that you want to experience Latin-America and learn a new language (or better your Spanish), I advise you to go – no matter your age or background. For example, this fall, there are students in the group from 18 up to 28 years old.
What is something you wish you knew before traveling to Costa Rica?
– It’s not very easy finding similar spices to the Norwegian taco seasoning, so bring some packs from home if you ever want a taste of the Norwegian "taco Friday"...

Erika, 21 years old from Stockholm
What has been your favorite experience in Costa Rica?
– I personally love the beaches and sunsets here in Costa Rica. For instance, the trip to Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean coast was a whole new adventure for me.
I would also say that a visit to Santa Teresa, Uvita or Dominical should be a priority if you like to surf, stay at the beach and have a lot of fun!
What is something you brought that you wish you left at home?
– I think I for the most part did a great job packing my suitcase, but I might have brought too many clothes. There are lots of great stores in town where you can buy more clothes here in case you would need that!
Why should one choose Kulturstudier in Costa Rica?
– If you are interested in visiting a country with one of the world's highest density of biodiversity, and experience the "pura vida"-lifestyle in a natural paradise on earth, while you learn a language and meet friends for life – Kulturstudier in Costa Rica is the right place for you!
