I often receive questions on Instagram from people who are interested in studying abroad, but are unsure, so with this blog post, I hope to answer some frequently asked questions.

1. Adventure

The day I signed up for a semester with Cultural Studies, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I saw pictures of beautiful nature, beaches, and animals, and after that, I signed up.

Suddenly I was on a plane on my way to Costa Rica with people I had only seen profile pictures of on Facebook.

After four months in Costa Rica, I am now sitting in the big city, Buenos Aires, which I have always dreamed of visiting. I have a book at home that asks me a question every day for a year.

Just before I left for Argentina, the question "What is your dream destination?" came up. One of them was Argentina, and now here I am.

If someone had told me that I would have the opportunity to live a year in Latin America, I would never have believed them, because it seemed unreal, like a fairy tale.

It may feel a bit like a fairy tale, the places we visit, the people we meet, there's so much that is so fascinating, so different from little Norway.

2. The People

Life here in Argentina wouldn't be what it is if it weren't for the people, both fellow students and the locals. Most of us came alone, knowing no one, but when you live together, study together, and hang out together, you quickly become acquainted with each other.

From day one, I knew these were people I was going to grow fond of. There are so many different kinds of people, at different stages in their lives. Some come straight from high school, unsure of their path ahead, while others have a master's degree but need a little break and are eager for something new.

There are people with many different interests, desires for life, and plans. No matter who you are, I am quite sure that you would fit in with this study. The locals here, I dare say, are the kindest and most helpful people I have met. If one is a bit lost or the map on the mobile is outdated, there is always help to be had from the locals.

What can I say about you, Buenos Aires? You surprised me a lot.

Many people I've met are talkative, invite you to Asado, and share tips about the city. Yes, I've met some strange people along the way, but they are everywhere and can be quite interesting.

Buenos Aires is also a popular destination to travel to, so here one can meet people from all over the world.

3. The Places

Argentina is a large country, but in four months there's a good amount of time to explore a bit of the country. Buenos Aires is a beautiful city, but after a while in the big city, it can be pleasant with a bit more nature and quietness.

Fortunately, there are many places one can travel to and much is quite accessible. An hour by train out of the city and suddenly you're at a place called Tigre where you can relax on a boat trip along the river.

If one desires some beach time, there is a ferry to Uruguay, or take a bus to Mar Del Plata. One week each semester there is a reading week where one can go on longer trips. I have personally booked tickets to Rio De Janeiro in Brazil and Santiago in Chile.

Once you're over here, it's very convenient to use the opportunity to travel a bit and experience more.

4. The City

What should I say about you, Buenos Aires? You surprised me greatly. If I were to try to describe this city with three words, they would perhaps be vibrant, spectacular, and educational.

They say that New York is the city that never sleeps, but I dare to claim that Buenos Aires never sleeps either. There's always something to do here. For me, coming from the quiet life in Costa Rica, this was perhaps the biggest difference.

There hasn't been much time to watch series, but I think that's how life should be when you're young. We have school every day, but relatively short days, and after school, there's time to explore the city. Cinema, dance classes, museums, theater, musicals, shopping, restaurants, nightlife, language cafes, parks, art, and much more.

It's very hard to get bored in this city. The architecture made me feel like I was in a European city, and there are so many beautiful buildings that make me stop in my tracks.

This is a city that cannot be described through pictures and a few words, it must be experienced.

5. The Learning

We are students over here! Even though many people on the street think we are tourists, we are students, with student visas. We are here to learn.

We need to learn Spanish, but along the way, so much more. We learn about culture, people, history, traditions, and not least about ourselves and our own culture.

Many of us live away from home for the first time, and on the other side of the globe, which isn't as easy for everyone. One learns about who they are, perhaps figures out what they want to do with their life, and maybe starts to reflect more.

There are many opportunities for self-improvement, but not least just to have fun.

Do you want to learn about yourself, learn languages, learn about what you want to do in your life? Study in Argentina!

There are many more reasons to choose to take a semester here that I haven't mentioned above - but I can't reveal everything!
